Will Smith is a Hollywood actor, rapper and producer. He has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for the movie “King Richard”. His first film was Bad Boys (1995). His first movie as a solo performer was Six Degrees of Separation (1993). In 1993, Smith starred with Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black. The two of them won a Screen Actors Guild Award for their roles.
During the late 80s and early 90s, Smith became popular as a rapper. Several of his songs are now considered radio friendly. Aside from rapping, he also played the MC of a hip hop group called DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. This group was famous for its humorous songs. One of their songs, “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” earned Smith a Grammy award for best rap performance.
In the early 21st century, Smith appeared in several movies. These films included I, Robot (2004, starring Michael Douglas) and The Legend of Bagger Vance (1999, starring Kevin Kline). Another big hit for him was “The Pursuit of Happyness,” which he also acted in. Also in the early 21st century, he worked with rappers T.I. and Chris Brown on several albums.
For his role as a hip hop rapper, Will Smith won two Grammy awards for his song, “Getty Jiggy Wit It,” and “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” as well as winning the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category for his songs, “Summertime” and “Parents Just Don’t Know What’s Best for Their Kids.” As a songwriter, he penned the theme song for the human beat box, Ready Rock C.
After the success of his debut album, The Fresh Prince, Smith was hired by NBC to star in a sitcom. This show, set in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel-Air, was successful, running for six seasons. Afterwards, he went on to work on several films.
Among the most successful of his films are Men in Black, Independence Day, I Am Legend, Bad Boys, and Suicide Squad. Throughout his career, he has earned over a half a billion dollars globally. Besides acting, he has also produced several movies. Currently, he is developing a feature film version of the television series It Takes a Thief.
Since his early acting debut in The Fresh Prince, he has gone on to star in numerous blockbuster movies. He has become a global superstar and is one of the most bankable stars in the world. Several of his films have earned over $100 million in the domestic box office. In fact, 17 of his 21 films have garnered worldwide gross earnings of over a hundred million dollars.
In addition to his films, Smith has acted in many stage productions. He has starred in an animated film, Spies in Disguise. In 2018, he appeared in a documentary TV series, One Strange Rock about Earth.
His success as a rapper and actor led to a crossover career. Smith started rapping at age twelve. Eventually, he became known as Prince, or Willard Carroll “Will” Smith II.
